Now, the earth may be revolving at the same speed as it did a few million years ago, but isn't it true that to most of us, the world seems to be spinning faster? As someone clever once said, speed is relative, and for us mortals, life seems to have become speedier today.
Thanks to new and emerging communications technology, getting and staying in touch has become a matter of an instant. A tap of a button, a slide of the finger, and that is all it takes. Whether we wish to talk to a friend, keep an eye on work, or find information about something, all it takes is a tiny motion of the wrist.
PDAs and Phones today have the capacity to do so much! They can fit in our social life, work life, leisure, entertainment, logistics and everything in between into a little machine. You could shop for Prestige used cars for the company, arrange dinner with the in laws next week, and keep your friends updated on your 'state of mind' within a few minutes, from a remote location!
Since we're surrounded with this technology all the time, it may not seem like such a big thing. But imagine losing the phone and the laptop and all the other gadgetry that you might own, just for a day or two, and examine the results!
But has this fast new communication technology brought us closer to people? And does it save time? To a certain extent yes, but it also has its side effects. One can argue that it has made communication shallower, and has made people busier and more stressed than ever before. The key lies in realising the place of technology in our lives. Communication technology is a great tool, but at no time should it be allowed to rule!
