There are more mobile phones than people in the UK, according to a recent report. Britain is at the top of the list of European countries where residents have more than one phone. The latest number is 1.6 mobile phones for each person in England or around eighty million handsets. The report also revealed that ten percent of the population has at least four mobile phones.
Why do people have so many of them? The most obvious explanation is that mobile phone technology is incredibly cheap these days. People can add an extra phone to their existing phone service account for peanuts. More often than not, customers use these second phones as a backup or an emergency phone.
In fact, many Britons have made the decision to jettison their landline and simply use mobile phones at home. Coverage areas and service in the UK has improved by leaps and bounds over the last decade, which means that mobiles are now a safe and reliable choice for a primary phone.
